Welcome to Monrovia
Known as the “Gem City of the Foothills,” Monrovia is set against the San Gabriel Mountains in the San Gabriel Valley. Incorporated in 1887, Monrovia is the fourth oldest city in Los Angeles County and has two historical preservation groups to boot. The Monrovia Historical Society restores old commercial buildings and landmarks, while the Monrovia Historic Preservation Group restores and preserves pre-1930s homes of architectural significance. You’ll find high-tech businesses, a thriving Old Town dining, shopping, and entertainment district, and homes ranging from Queen Annes to Neo-Mediterraneans (Upton Sinclair’s former house and The Oaks are local icons). A weekly farmer’s market and community events such as Friday Night Family Street Fair and summertime concerts in the park show are beloved around town.
