Swedish Architecture Firm Jordens Arkitekter Unveils Echo Park Eco-House
 
If you’re one of the many readers of DIRT who does not happen to reside in the city of Los Angeles, you may not be familiar with the weather phenomenon that descends upon the normally sunny metropolis in late spring and early summer. Known alternately as “May Gray” or “June Gloom,” depending, obviously, on the month, it happens when the air near the ocean’s surface is cooler than the air above it, creating an inversion that traps the cooler air and forms marine layer clouds.
 
Ordinarily, this weather event is an L.A. real estate photographer’s bane — Spanish Colonial Revivals and sleek Malibu contemporaries just don’t look quite as inviting against a dreary backdrop of overcast skies. But for this newly built Echo Park residence designed by Swedish architecture firm Jordens Arkitekter, June gloom isn’t an issue — in fact, it pairs rather well with the home’s cool and moody Scandinavian aesthetic.
